day twenty-eight: Devonport - strange town!

Arrived in Devonport, after a fairly calm journey of 14 and a half hours. Caught a bus waiting outside to the YHA.
My first impressions were unfavourable. 40 minutes walk from town, rooms locked from 10-5pm and no linen. I hastily rearranged my tour dates to cut down on the number of nights staying here. The people who ran the place seemed nice enough, just a bit weird.

Caught a little on the hop with no hostel to hang out at, I went to the cinema in the afternoon and "The talented Mr. Ripley", not sure if I enjoyed it or not!

In the evening, went for a couple of pints and a steak at Molly Malones, an Irish pub, with my new room mate,Paul, from Canberra. He worked in I.T. for the immigration department. He was a serious bush walker and had some disturbing stories about people going missing in the bush.

We returned to the YHA about 10pm.
