A return to Dartmoor this weekend for my Walking Group Leader training, and weather-wise, it was pretty much as I left it back in August!
An early rise on Saturday, at 6.30am to make my way to Princetown. I made sure I had plenty of time to enjoy a bacon and egg sarnie and mug of tea in the Fox Tor Cafe, before we all met up in the Visitor Centre Car Park at 9am.
Introductions made, we all donned waterproofs and rucksacks and headed off out onto the moor for some navigation exercises. Visibility wasn't great, but good for the purpose, mist rolled in and out all day, and the rain was constant. It gives you an enormous sense of satisfaction when you have set a bearing, followed it into the mist, and found your objective! Also pleasantly surprised to find when pacing distance that, for me, 63 steps is approximately 100m, which will be easy to remember as it was the year I was born!
Finished about 5pm, soaked through, but loving the whole experience!
