The Ridgeway National Trail
The Ridgeway National Trail is 85 miles long, stretching from Avebury in Wiltshire, over rolling, open downland to the west of the River Thames, and through secluded valleys and woods in The Chilterns to the east, finishing near Ivinghoe in Hertfordshire. Reputed to be the oldest road in Britain, the trail follows the same route used since prehistoric times by travellers, herdsmen and soldiers. The challenge was to walk the trail in around 7 days, in aid of The Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research. Our journey began on Friday 20th October, travelling to Marlbrough for an overnight stay, setting off early the next morning. 29th October 2006Simon successfully completes the Ridgeway Challenge! We thought you might like to know how our fundraising is going. The event was a success for Simon, who did a great job and managed to walk the 85 miles in just 6 days!! Well done Simon!! I, unfortunately, had to pull out after 12 miles with a foot and hip injury. Despite this, I hung around encouraging Simon, and supplying the odd cup of coffee along the way. So far we have managed to raise £739.00 for Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research UK. Thanks to all who have sponsored us. Pictures of the event can be seen here. Other Walks
